Pitt Meadows Spring Rec Guide

PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURE | SPRING 2022

Valid April - June 2022 Registration starts Tues. March 8

Pitt Meadows Adopts Parks, Recreation and Culture

The City of Pitt Meadows has adopted its first independent Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Master Plan after hearing from thousands of residents, sport user groups and stakeholders over the last year. The Master Plan will provide a framework for decisions related to parks, recreation, arts and culture land use, programs, and facilities over the next 15 years. “Our parks, recreation, arts and cultural facilities are the heart of our community,” says Mayor Bill Dingwall. “Whether you enjoy cycling along our dikes, playing baseball at the Athletic Park, visiting the Art Gallery, or exercising at our Fitness Centre, there is something for everyone in this plan. We are proud to now have a PRC Master Plan that is unique to our community’s needs to inform City planning and policies for many years to come.” The PRC Master Plan identifies priorities for parks, recreation, arts and culture services in Pitt Meadows including service delivery objectives, strategies and action, ensuring planning is inclusive, collaborative, data- driven, and sustainable, among others. The City is establishing a PRC Advisory Committee in 2022 to work with both City staff and Council on how to best advance the Master Plan’s recommendations, which includes plans for the new Amenity Lands the City received in November 2021, near the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park.

“Resident and stakeholder engagement was integral to the PRC Master Plan process,” says Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts. “We are pleased to have received the input of so many residents and user groups whose feedback and insight has helped create a planning document that reflects the unique character of our community and will help us plan the City’s ongoing investment in these areas.” The Master Plan process involved a review of all the City’s parks, recreation, arts and cultural facilities, programs and services including comparisons to other municipalities. The creation of the plan was based on extensive engagement with stakeholders and residents through surveys and focus groups to ensure that the plan aligns with the community’s needs and priorities. This is the first PRC Master Plan since the joint model between the City of Maple Ridge and City of Pitt Meadows was dissolved in 2016 and the previous plan created in 2010. Visit pittmeadows.ca/prcmasterplan for more information and to review the Master Plan.

Active Birthday Parties

Step 1: Choose your party type Day: Sunday Times: 10:30am-12:30pm & 1:30pm-3:30pm.

Why is food not included? Due to the volume of dietary restrictions, allergies and customizations we have left the food component up to you - the good news is that we have reduced the fee to not impact your party budget! Are we allowed to have sparklers for the cake? No, as these are deemed a fire hazard. Standard size birthday candles are permitted, but sparklers are not. What do we do if we want more than 15 children for the party? Our ratio of 1 leader to 15 children means that we will have to schedule more staff at an additional flat rate charge of $45 for groups of 16-30 in addition to the base fee. Can parents pay for extra children when they arrive? No, the staff to child ratio is set to 1:15. For safety reasons, if the party organizers arrive with more children they will not be able to attend the party. Does my infant count towards the number of children attending? If the child is actively participating in the activities they are included in the ratio.

Mini Gym Party Ages 0-5Y

This party is designed for younger children interested in active play. Our recreation leader will set up half the gym with all of the mini gym equipment such as: play balls, mats, ride on toys, hula hoops and much more.

Multi-Sport Party Ages 6-14Y

Our recreation leader will play active sports with the group and run a variety of gym games such as: soccer, ball hockey, badminton, dodgeball, group games, and more!

Step 2: Review the details

What is included in the fee ($150/15 max children, additonal charge applies to more participants) • Use of the lounge - play pool, foosball, ping pong and listen to music. This is where children can have their cake, food and drinks, open presents, and relax. • Gymnasium and kitchen area (including a standard fridge). • The fee includes a facility host who will open up the rooms for you, and during the active components will facilitate the active play or sports. The host will set up the lounge with tables, chairs, and table cloths prior to the start of the party and will put them away once the party ends. • Any items you bring in including decorations, you are responsible for cleaning and removing.

Can the party organizer bring alcohol? No. Alcohol is not permitted under any circumstances.

Step 3: Register!

Registering online will reserve your time slot. Staff will contact you within a week to confirm party type and number of guests in attendance OR register by phone at 604.465.2470 or in person at the Recreation Centre.
